CD Projekt Group Q1 2017 Financial Report Highlights
Today, CD Projekt Group, the parent company of game developer CDPR and PC digital game platform GOG, released their financial report for the first quarter of 2017. According to official data, the net income for this quarter increased by 14% year-on-year, reaching 99.3 million Polish zlotys.
It was reported that both CDPR's internal game developer and GOG's revenue increased. Although CDPR did not launch any new games, its revenue increased by 10%, while GOG's revenue increased by 63%.
Due to the increase in revenue, the company's profit also rose. The net profit of CDP Group in the first quarter of 2017 reached 45.3 million Polish zlotys, an increase of nearly 40% year-on-year.
CD Projekt's Financial Performance and Future Plans
CDP Deputy CEO and CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said, "Two years after the release of 'The Witcher 3,' players' interest in the 'Witcher' products is still strong. In the first quarter of 2017, we not only sold more copies of 'The Witcher 3' than last year, but also achieved an increase in revenue from 'The Witcher 3' (including DLC) compared to last year. The spin-off game 'Gwent' also contributed to the growth, although it is still in BETA testing, it has generated the first real revenue."
In addition, the financial report also revealed that in the first quarter of 2017, CDPR invested 16 million Polish zlotys (4.2 million US dollars) in the development of the new games 'Cyberpunk 2077' and 'The Witcher: Gwent'. Since neither of them has been launched, the cost of new game development has been rising. As of March 31, 2017, CDPR's development expenses reached 79 million Polish zlotys (21 million US dollars).
Future Development Plans for 'Gwent' and 'Cyberpunk 2077'
Finally, the official also mentioned the future development plans for 'Gwent'. The future plans include creating new game modes, paid single-player campaigns, more language support, entering the Chinese market, closer market support than before, and future game competitions and events.
'Gwent' is currently a free game and just entered BETA public testing yesterday. It is scheduled to be officially launched on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms later this year. As for the highly anticipated release date of 'Cyberpunk 2077,' CDPR still has not given a specific release window.
